Problem

Many people struggle to maintain a healthy lifestyle due to lack of motivation, proper guidance, and convenient access to resources. Existing health and wellness apps often lack user-friendly interfaces, fail to engage users effectively, and are not tailored to individual needs and preferences. Additionally, some users find it challenging to access these apps seamlessly across various devices, leading to a disjointed user experience.

Solution

Design a responsive health and wellness app that addresses these challenges and provides a seamless and engaging experience for users.

Competitive Analysis

My focus was to gain insight into the key players and their positioning in the market. I conducted an in-depth competitive analysis of three prominent wellness apps: Calm, Meditopia, and Headspace. This analysis allowed me to understand their strengths and weaknesses, as well as identify opportunities for differentiation in the creation of Zenergy.

User Journey Map

Analyzing personas' attitudes, I created user journey maps for Zenergy, highlighting insights and pain points. This data-driven approach ensures user-centered development, enhancing the overall experience for a seamless and enjoyable Zenergy interaction.

User Flows

I designed a user flow based on the insight from my personas. Keeping in mind what screens the personas might encounter when accomplishI crafted a user flow, considering the screens personas would interact with while using the application to accomplish their tasks. This approach ensures a seamless and intuitive experience tailored to their needs.ing their tasks using the application.

Usability Testing

After designing prototypes, conducting usability testing with real users is crucial. Their feedback pinpoints issues, guiding design improvements for an optimal user experience.

Participants

8 people

Duration

15-20 minute moderated usability test

Methodology

Remote testing comprised a concise briefing, task performance on mobile app, and debriefing session

Goal

Evaluate the learnability of the users who interact with the app

Test Objectives

1. Assess participants' ability to rapidly and effortlessly acquire proficiency in using the app
2. Observe how users navigate through the app's features and interact with them
3. Verify if users can play any music, video, or podcasts through the app
4. Evaluate if users can learn something about wellness through the app
5. Determine if users can access their profile within the app

Issue #1
Several users reported that the navigation menu was confusing and difficult to use. They commented that the icons in the navigation menu were unclear and didn't provide enough information about what each tab contained.

Solution
To address this issue, I redisgned the navigation menu to improve its intuitiveness and user-frendliness. I added descriptive labels to each tab to provide more context and clarity of users. Additionally, I replaced some of the icons with more recognizable symbols.

Issue #2
Users expressed confusion with the progress-tracking feature and didn't understand how to interpret the data.

Solution
I revamped the progress interface to create a more visually engaging and intuitive user experience to address this. Specifically, I added clear labels to help users better understand the presented data.

Final Thoughts

What went well?
When conducting user research and analyzing user data, I was able to gain insights into the needs, behaviors, and pain points of users regarding mindfulness and meditation. This allowed me to make a design decision that ensured the final product met the needs of the target audience. Additionally, I created a user-centered design that was both easy to navigate and visually pleasing, which met the user requirements.

What were some challenges?
As a designer, staying up-to-date with the latest design trends and experimenting with new design approaches can be challenging, but it's necessary for designing successful applications.

What have I learned?
I realized that conducting user research is a crucial aspect of creating a user-centered design that meets the need of the target audience. I learned that being flexible and open to feedback is essential to create any design. Iteration and prototyping helped me test and refine my design until it met the users' needs.

Summary
This project became a success when I created a user-centered design that met the needs of my target audience. I overcame challenges through feedback and willingness to experiment with new design approaches. I've learned the importance of user research and iterations.
